So far so good
I like the look and feel. The detent catches, just a little, on the liner lock when you go to close the knife. I plan on dying the scales to make it my own. Can't beat the price for an M390 blade
Disappointed at first but
I was immediately disappointed when I received the knife. I purchased the knife a few days before any reviews were posted. I let Blade HQ know my disappointment & they promptly emailed me a return label. Like others have now stated the lock bar to close the blade had a horrible stick but after a few days of 100’s of openings & closings. The lock bar no longer sticks & I am not… read more going to return the knife. I am now pleased with my purchase. It was not as sharp out of the box as my Microtechs/Protechs/Benchmades & Spydercos were but that was an easy fix
Lock Stick But otherwise fantastic
At first I was like everyone else and the lock-stick was HORRIBLE. I had to use 2 hands to close the knife. Pencil trick did work for a little bit and I'm glad I did it a few times because I'm sure that helped. Basically my lock stick is almost gone. I popped it open as fast as I could flick for the worst lock-stick possible. Then I would have to use 2 hands to pop the lock back… read more out and be careful not to break the G10. Once I did this about 300 times or so it smoothed out. Since I have flicked it probably another 300 times and the lock-stick is almost gone. I love the thin blade, the hollow grind (I re-sharpened to a shallower angle and now it flys through anything I want to cut), the look, and the pocket clip. It would be 5 stars for anyone wanting a non-hard use edc if it wasn't for that lock stick. But if you don't mind spending some time and getting sore fingers it can be a 5 star, especially for the price.
Missed attention to detail
The good: nice action and blade steel.
The bad: this knife had a horrendous lock stick, some graphite helped. Also, the frame looks like it was punched out of sheet metal with no attempt to smooth/sand out the edges.
More like 4.8 stars
So glad I got this on sale from Blade HQ. For $80 u get an m390 3.5" slim blade, all blacked out, with natural g10 scales u can dye however u want- I like it just like it is. Most amazingly, it only weighs one ounce! I have only 2 small issues that keep this from getting a perfect score- the liner lock is a bit sticky when closing and I'd appreciate a little texture on the scales.… read more That said, I own more than 30 pocket knives and several fixed blades. This one is already a favorite for me and I'm getting a couple more as gifts for my brother and a good friend. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a very lightweight knife with a super steel blade. Best bang for the buck I've seen in a while. Thanks, BladeHQ!
Decent knife
I really want to like this knife. Mine came out of the box with bad lock stick. I disassembled it and lightly sanded the finish off the end of the lock bar with 2000 grit sandpaper and it now only sticks sometimes, but the lockup is questionable at best. If you press the lock bar straight towards the spine while it’s locked up there is play. Interestingly enough the blade has… read more no play so far. I would probably return it if I hadn’t already sharpened it and disassembled it to try to fix the lock stick myself. It holds an edge as well as any m390 I have used so far. If I trusted the lockup more it would probably be my favorite in my collection. It’s super lightweight and has a respectable blade length. It’s a slim and elegant blade shape, and the color scheme is nice, but cardboard will scratch the black finish. I wish it was DLC coated.
