Compared to the trailmaster san mai variety, this knife has a little bit more length and belly. The steel is an upgrade from san mai in edge retention even though it is still not a powdered steel. I cannot speak about edge toughness yet. The falkinven handle is a bit more aggressive, grippy. This grip feels like a harder material than the trailmaster or recon scout. I would argue… read more that the trailmasters are designed slightly more as a fighting knife, even thought their handles are softer and more suitable for everyday tasks. The falkniven grip agressiveness/thickness/confidence makes up for the increased heft and lack of "livelyness"
